Combat Rogue vs Undead Shadow Priest



A priest in Shadowform has over 40% damage reduction, which is comparable to 2 hand warriors. He can also toss up shields every 15 seconds and use vampiric embrace to heal himself of 20% damage dealt. The UD Priest has an additional DOT to damage and heal himself, devouring plague, this ability is huge in a matchup that otherwise favors the Rogue who has the PVP trinket to break the first fear.



This matchup played at the highest level, is rather simple. The Rogue will use the Insignia trinket to break the first fear and he has 26 seconds to kill the priest. The priest will do whatever he can to stay alive until the next fear, at that point he wins the match. No amount of health can keep a Rogue alive against a High Warlord UD Shadow Priest, you have the trinket to break one fear, you must kill him before he fears you the second time.



In a DPS fight, CB/Prep builds quite honestly, can't really cut it. You have to go Seal Fate Dagger (although I don't think you can cut through a HW UD Priest without tea), or in my case, combat with Adrenaline Rush. Without using Adrenaline Rush, blade flurry + slice & dice is sufficient against lesser equipped priests, but it doesn't seem to be enough at the highest gear range.



In a perfect world, a nice CS opener into a 3-4 point expose armor followed by Adrenaline Rush will demolish even the best of the best UD Shadow Priests. Howeever, all it takes is one or two blackout procs from Shadow Word Pain to give him space to run and burn precious time off that dreaded 26 second clock. 15% stun resistance is also a factor against CS and KS. I used mainhand cripple and offhand mind numbing, but dual cripple seems to be the way to go. If he gets a blackout proc when he is NOT crippled, it is game over. You have to proc cripple on him the entire fight.
